Alabama Information Security Programs

As organizations rely more and more on computer systems to conduct their operations, cyber attacks have grown greater in number and intensity.  Network security analysts are a critical component of any business, government agency, or non-profit that relies on computers to conduct its business.

Because of its importance, the field of information and network security is growing, leading to a number of job opportunities for those with master’s degrees in network security in Alabama.  Unemployment in this field was virtually zero in 2011, and the number of information security analysts is expected to grow 22% nationally in the period leading up to 2020.  Alabama has two chapters of the Information Security Systems Association with one located in central Alabama and another located in the northern region of the state.

Prospective graduate students who wish to obtain a master’s degree in network security can choose from a variety of online universities that offer this specialty as a concentration within a computer science degree.  This type of study offers the flexibility to earn a degree while continuing to remain employed.  Such an arrangement is particularly valuable for the field of network security, which typically requires a background of IT employment.

  • MS in Information Technology with an Internet Security concentration
